Katie Silverwood, MS, MFT (she, her, & hers)

Katie completed her Bachelor of Arts in the School of Journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Masters Degree from Edgewood College for Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT). Following her graduation and clinical internship at the Family Center in Madison in May of 2021, she joined Trailways Counseling and became a licensed MFT in 2023. Prior to Katie’s career change, she worked in the healthcare communications industry for over 15 years and lived in cities such as New York and London before returning to her Madison roots.

As an MFT, Katie takes a systemic approach that addresses interaction, patterns and dynamics of communities and families rather than just an individual approach. Personally, she feels her practice is better defined by a broader and more inclusive definition, relationship and family therapy. She works from a person-centered and strengths-based perspective, which means building on strengths of the communities while tailored to the individual. As she is a problem solver by nature, she also incorporates solution-focused theory in her work. Katie works with individuals of all ages, families and parents, and has a range of experience including social skills concerns, emotional regulation, depression, anxiety and co-parenting.

Katie is currently training to become a certified Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. What is EMDR?

In Katie’s free time, she loves to hang out with her family and friends, watch and play sports and travel.

Katie provides outpatient services virtually and at the Waunakee office and Comprehensive Community Services to Columbia, Dane, Dodge and Sauk counties. Katie is not currently accepting new patients.
